Yesterday my mentor and I were looking for a statistic for unsolved crimes in Pittsburgh. The only problem was that when we tried to look on the Internet it gave us everything except for the statistics in Pittsburgh for unsolved cases. I used what I could find for my proposal.

~~Interview~~

I had my interview yesterday with my mentor at my internship. I learned alot about what real and the show CSI's really do. He told me that real CSI's do not carry guns and do not interrogate the suspects. I never knew that. I guess from watching the show I thought that they do. I guess I was one of those people who believe what the show CSI does as well.
I am still working on my notes.
Right now I am on my article section of my notes. It's going good so far. I highlighted the things I thought were necessary. Once I am done with the highlighting then I will type them into my notes.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

~~Today~~

Today in class I had my notes checked and graded for how much I have done so far. I got an A on it!!! I am so happy because I needed a good grade in order to bring my grade that I have now up. I am trying to get a B in this class. I want an A put I do not want to push my luck.

~~Monday~~

In class we were taking notes the whole class day. I started to organize my notes. I copied and pasted the notes that bet answered my essential questions.

~~Notes~~

Today in class we were taking notes for our graduation topics. I found alot of information that has helped me with my essentail questions and learn much more. I found out in one of the articles from my web site was how long it actually takes to solve a crime and howlong it takes to run tests on evidence that you find.

Friday, June 8, 2007

~~Friday~~

Tomorrow is the day of my ACT test!!! I keep studying math but I don't think the things that I learned will really help me when it comes for the test. You only have an hour to do 60 questions. There is no way I can get that many done and right by that time. I just can't wait until it's over and done with. Maybe I won't be so nervous afterwards.

~~Thursday~~

Lately I have been worrying about my ACT's that is coming up! We took a practice test in English and we had 35 minutes to read and answer 40 questions!! I only go up to question 20!! I am so nervous about this test. Everyone is telling me not to panic but that's what I usually do and I can't help myself.

~~Wednesday~~

Today in class we had to write down the guidelines for our notes for our topics. I left my books for my topic at home. so instead I am just looking at the articles that I found on the web sites we had to look for.

~~Vocab Terms~~

Here are my vocabulary terms.

  1. Ballistic fingerprinting- a method that finds the gun that matches the bullet that was shot in the crime scene.

  2. Bloodstain patterns- the size and lengths of bloodstains that help determine where the person was moving at and where they died at as well.

  3. Electrophesis- An electric current is then passed through a means that contains the mixture in it. Then each kind of molecule travels through the means at a different rate. IT depends on its electrical charge and the size of it. The separation of the molecules is based on these differences of how they are separated from large to small.

  4. Forensic anthropology- study of human remains.

  5. Forensic evidence- is the application of forensic science and technology to help recognize a specific object that was found in a crime scene.

  6. Forensic science- a method of obtaining evidence related to a crime.

  7. Fluorescent- A bright vivid color that glows under a black light.

  8. Lacerations – Something that has been torn roughly. Such as a rough cut.

  9. Larvae - The young of any insect which goes through metamorphosis (changes in body structure) before becoming an adult.

  10. Luminal spray -A substance is used to help increase fingerprints to be shown.

  11. Maggots- The larvae of flies and other insects that live on rotting food. They usually help figure the time of death the person was killed at.

  12. Science fiction- fake sciences. Such has future technologies that may help with solving crime scenes better but in reality will never come true.

~~Friday~~

Today we are looking for words that we would use when we discuss about our topics. I am so happy today is Friday. I don't have to go to work today and I am happy about that because it gives me some time to relax and hang out with my family. Even though I work tomorrow I'm glad that I am off today.

~~Library~~

The other day we went to the library to find the books we wrote down for our graduation project topic. I couldn't find the books that I wrote down but I didn't find some good books that can help me with my project.

How will I set up my crime scene?
How should you collect evidence?

~~Webliography~~

  1. Andrea Bellemare. May 16, 2007. http://www.journalism.ryerson.ca/online/giant/entertainment/abellemare_final.htm
    Rate 5
This article talks about the show CSI and the real CSI. They tell the differences between the fingerprinting and how you don’t solve a case in two days. They also talk about that the biggest difference between the show and the real CSI is that you can change the channel to something else but, in real life you can’t really do that.
I rate this site a 5 because, this site may have gave me good information but it didn’t give me enough that I wanted or needed.
I will use this site in my essay about that comparison with the show CSI and the real CSI.
  2. “CSI”. CBS. May 18, 2007. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi/

The article that I have found is the site of the show CSI. It gives what shows are coming on next. It also gives definitions of the tools and certain objects that they use on the show and actual real life.
I rate this site a 9 because, it helps show how the show and the real CSI are so much different form one another and also helps prove that it is just a show and not reality.
I will use this for my mock crime scene as well as my essay that I will turn in for my graduation project.

The article talks about how the shows of investigations are not as real as the real deal. They say how long it actually takes for lab results and how fast it takes for shows to come up with the tests. They say that even though you think you watch CSI Miami doesn’t mean you actually know everything about forensics.
I would rate this site a 9 because it helps people to understand that the show isn’t what it is seemed to be. It also explains that it isn’t as easy as people think it is for results in a crime lab.
I will use this site in my essay and in my mock crime scene that it takes longer to find results and solve a case than on t.v.

    Rate 4
The article describes all about the show. It talks about the characters as well as how popular it is today. It also talks about the good and the bad about the show as well.

~~Yesterday~~

Yesterday was very confusing. I tried getting as many annotations/webliography sites as possible. I'm starting to think I will not have a good grade in this class and I am very worried about that. I am going to try harder for now on though.

~~Internship~~

I talked to my mentor at my internship and he had a crime scene for me already that I can use for my graduation. He told me that he will give me the things for the scene whenever I need it. I'm so excited about the project I can't wait to actually do it.

~~CSI Poster~~

I put on my poster the things that Crime Scene Investigators use to help solve a case. I also put the cast members from the show CSI on my poster since I want to show that it is a show and some of the things that they do are not real. I put put magnifying glasses on my poster since they use them and a little girl detective as to show what they look like. I also put a man at a crime scene with a fake outline of a person to show that in real life that's not what it really looks like. I put a person's background check with his fingerprints because it shows what they really do with someone when they are arresting them or are looking for them.

~~AAaahh~~

~~Monday~~

Today in class we had to write another "About Me" paper to help us with our topics. So far I can only think of something dealing with forensics but I don't know exactly what I want to do with it. I think dealing with Crime Scene things is what I am going to deal with. I hope I figure something out soon before our time is up for a topic.

My computer has been acting up lately and is getting on my nerves. It seems like certain things on it doesn't want to start or work. It is driving me crazy. Another thing is I charged it all night last night and now it is about to die. My picture explains how I feel about this.

~~First Assignment~~

A.) I haven't really heard much about the graduation project. I heard from a few people that did it last trimester and someone from 12Th grade. they said that it is difficult but it's not as bad as it seems. One persons experience with it was hard to find a topic to decide on.

B.) I think for my graduation project i want to do a project dealing with something in my internship. my internship deals with forensic science. i love forensics. i want to be a crime scene investigator or either work in the crime lab. i think i would like to use some of the things that i learned from my internship into my graduation project.

C.) My only concern with my project is what to really have it about my project. i want it to deal with forensics but i don't know exactly what i can do with it yet. and another thing is i don't know how i can contribute it to the community or something like that that my graduation project has to deal with.

~~My First Blog~~

Today in class we are just starting how to blog. we went to the site blogger.com to set up our account. The only problem I was having with mine is that I made one yesterday and I messed it up so I have to remake it again, but the thing was that since I made one before this I couldn't use the URL that I used for the other one. So what I did was I just put my middle initial in so it could work.

This is my first time ever blogging. I never used g-mail before. I didn't even know this existed until Mrs. Fossum told us all about it. The only emails that I knew about and have were yahoo and my city high email.
